Cyg shifted her hips forward and her shoulders back as she slipped into a deep stretch. Behind her, the cable car line buzzed drolly, a scar against the sky. Beneath her, the world dropped down into the sharp descent of the jagged pass. Rocking back and forth on her heels, Cyg pursed her lips, questioning if this was really a good idea.

She’d been cooped up in Mauville for the last few years and hadn’t really had the chance for much adventuring. Once upon a time, though, she’d loved the great outdoors, and hiking, and not sitting on the couch being a depressed sack of shit while Feldspar napped in her lap. So when a late winter-early spring day dawned bright and clear, she’d gotten a random bee up her butt and decided to go… somewhere.

Cable car tickets were half off on Saturdays, so that had greatly helped in her decision making.

Still, the descent was intimidating, to say the least. Looking down was making her a bit dizzy. She had the vague notion of someone moving near her.

“You having second thoughts, too?” she asked, not looking to see who it may be.

The last time Mars had visited Mt.Chimney’s Jagged Pass in search of the ever-elusive Unown, he had run into no other than Locke Jamison. This time, the voice that addressed him was one of vague familiarity thanks to a much more recent encounter, and when he turned towards it, he found himself in the presence of none other than ana fell.

”Huh… Talk about fate. What are you doing up here, Cygne?”

Fate, not a coincidence, for much had happened to cause Mars to stop believing in the latter.

Still, he smiled at the grunt, calm as ever.

”I was just having a look around... You’ve never been up here before? We can head down together if you want.”

An Alolan Raichu floated by his side, using its Psychic abilities to surf through the air on its own tail. Its large ears twitched when it turned towards Cygne, giving a friendly ’Chu!’ just as a paw was raised in greeting.

Cyg was expecting some jolly mountain climber, or a collection of unwashed teenagers with pockets full of drugs. But when the voice that filtered back to her was familiar, she stopped mid-stretch. “Oh, hey, boss,” she said, genuine excitement running through her tone. She liked Mars. He was good people, as far as Cyg was concerned.

“No, I’ve never been up here. Too lazy for that. Or busy.” Being a union electrician was a lot of work. Generally she worked four 12-hour days on and then had three off, which were mostly reserved for sleeping.

“Sure, if you don’t mind me tagging along.” She smiled as they began their descent. It was a nice enough day, with sparse cloudcover and a sun partial to hiding. “It is sort of peaceful up here.” She smiled at the Raichu and raised her own hand in greeting, giving a little wave.

They were coming to a set of downwards stairs when a mauve form leaped out into their path. The Tyrogue stuck it’s hand out to signal for them to stop. “What are you, the bridge troll?” Cyg asked, releasing Elisabet from her PokeBall. “Time to go night night, bridge troll.” Lis’ eyes flared red as her hypnosis channeled through the air. The Tyrogue’s eyes grew heavy, and it dropped like a stone. Cyg tossed a PokeBall at it’s limp form to collect it.

Walks had become a somewhat commonplace in Mars’ life the past few months, although most of the time they took the form of hikes. Mt Pyre, Route 116, Meteor Falls, and here, in Jagged Pass. All places he had become all too familiar with. All places Psychic type pokémon were known to dwell in.

So, when Cygne commented on how peaceful it was up at the height of Mt. Chimney, Mars smiled in agreement, for while he may have been searching for Unown, these weekly hikes were also supposed to be relaxing.

”It is, yeah. Really quiet compared to the city, right?”
[break][break]
Although, apparently a Tyrogue was all too determined to interrupt their peace.

He watched as Cygne’s pokémon dealt with it, a slight smirk tugging at his lips when hearing the command given. ”Good choice. Putting them to sleep is usually much more effective and less troublesome than combat.” It was also one of his preferred methods when it came to catching pokémon, but in this case, the Raichu that accompanied him was better fit for other strategies…

A Woobat flew overhead and Mars nodded towards it, his Raichu being quick to begin the chase. An AIR SLASH was swiftly avoided, surfing a loop in the air, and before the Woobat could even react, an ELECTRO BALL hit its mark. It was then when Mars threw a Luxury Ball up, towards the Woobat’s falling body.

It was a different sort of quiet, Cyg thought. There was the distant hum of the cable car, and the occasional clunk-thunk of a center plate launching clumsily from the center bar; the wind was constant here, up so high, somehow close and far at the same time; the calls of wild Pokemon periodically split the air.

Mars talked about the quiet like it was an estranged friend. Like someone he used to know. “I imagine you’re pretty busy all the time, though, right?” Cyg ventured, hoping it wasn’t inappropriate to remind the POG Bank CEO that he had responsibilities. She was really just impressed he made time for opportunities to get out like this. She definitely hadn’t. “Yeah, I’m like an electrical current. I like the path of least resistance. So does Lis.” The Haunter floated up near to them, large mouth split in a freakish, tongue-lolling grin-- but her eyes were kind.

Cyg whistled in appreciation after the Woobat had been summarily dispatched. “Luxury balls. That’s very in character.” She grinned. Lis floated off to inspect a shiny rock.

They continued on their way.

’Busy’ was perhaps an understatement when it came to someone like Mars, especially when he had the duties of a Rocket admin on top of those of the CEO of a multinational corporation. Knowing how to manage his time was the only reason why he was able to find moments to do things like these, as well as the helpful presence of the assistant who arranged his schedule for him…

Yet, despite the fact that all those things were true, he didn’t bother with explaining them to Cygne, instead simply looking at her while a slight smirk tugged at his lips. ”Being all work and no play is no fun though.”

A moment later, her whistling drew his attention back to her after the Woobat had been caught, and he found himself chuckling at her words. She was right: Luxury Balls were probably what people would expect from someone like him.

The joys of being wealthy enough to have aesthetics be his main focus. Then again, he did also welcome the other bonuses…

Yeah, sure, so they were out having a relaxing hike, climbing down a mountain, and the first thing Cyg does is remind the dude of all the other responsibilities he has to worry about, like the guillotine blade hanging over his neck. Real smooth, Cyg. It didn’t seem to get to Martín del Mar , though. Nothing did. Maybe that was why she liked him so much? Because none of the shit she managed to spout, flowing out her mouth like a craptastic fountain of ineptitude, bothered him.

If Epimetheus had an advertisement brand, she was its posterchild.

“Yeah, that’s true,” Cyg agreed, gathering her hair up into a ponytail as they walked. “My favorite hobby is probably sleeping.” Or sitting in the shower until the water got cold, but he probably didn’t need to know that.

Sometimes Mars did things that reminded Cygne he was rich and she was supposed to hate people like him. That’s why she joined Rocket, right? Eat the rich. But he was kind of her boss and could probably kill her if he wanted.

She hadn’t survived abject poverty on recklessness.

“I hope to get there, someday,” Cyg said, hoping she didn’t seem too pathetic. “Be able to afford aesthetics.”

Wasn’t that what people often said? When it came to his job, Mars would always be a perfectionist: hardworking, controlling, prone to micromanaging, and always striving for efficiency and success over anything else. The same mentality applied to his tasks as one of Rocket’s admins and to many other aspects of his life, but when it came to what other people said or what they thought of him…

Well, the truth was that those things rarely mattered much.

He was judgmental, though. But, thankfully for ana fell, as much as his hardworking self may have wanted to judge the mention of having sleeping as a hobby, he did find her honesty about those things to be rather…refreshing. Maybe it was also the fact that he sure wished he too were able to get enough sleep to call it a hobby.

”Hey, whatever helps you destress. When you work hard, it’s also important to have things you enjoy doing.” Just as he said this, BUBBLES broke through the air in the form of a BEAM – the Raichu being quick to dash through them as if in a sparking flash. A Poliwrath shot its WATER GUN towards it, but Notus swiftly avoided each shot, surfing closer and closer, until it was close enough to hit the water type with a point-blank ELECTRO BALL.

”Take Notus, for example. He loves doing this sort of thing.”

Mars chuckled then, turning towards Cygne.

She was just tired, okay. She wasn’t that lazy. She just worked a lot. Work hard, sleep hard. Print it, sell it, put it on a T-Shirt: POG Bank’s next million dollar idea. She should pitch that.

Who was she kidding?

She was about to do it, anyway, like an idiot, when a noise of popping bubbles made her ears hurt. Martín del Mar ’s Raichu was quick to hop to action-- or, well, fly, in this case-- deftly dodging the attacking Poliwhirl’s aquatic projectiles until it was almost on top of the poor thing. It then shot off an electric attack at negative range, making short work of their attacker.

He loves this sort of thing. “What, blowing Water-types off the face of the map?” Cyg asked, impressed, and a little scared. “Sure looks like it.”
